Yes, this is the very first of what I hope will be many posts, comments, quips, commentaries and friendly nudges to appear at AndyKroll.com.
I’ve created this site to both gather my published writing in one location and to blog on a frequent basis on issues that are important to me and, hopefully, important to those who’ll read the blog. Though much of the blogosphere seems to me a big echo chamber, with like-minded folks assuring and back-patting each other, I do intend to write about and comment on captivating and engaging writing I come across, be it prose or poetry, fiction or journalism, online or in print. The kind of writing that really drives the debate.
However, as a young journalist who’s written a lot of about such topics as youth politics, higher education, environmental issues, the American auto industry and others, this blog will also feature plenty of original reporting and commentary backed up by reporting experience.
I also intend to use this blog as a place to provide additional information on stories I’ve published elsewhere — information that didn’t make it into the published version, but might still be of interest to readers. Plus, if readers want to continue the conversation about one of my published pieces, this is the ideal place to do it, and I welcome all constructive comments and critiques.
So these are my hopes for AndyKroll.com. I’m sure the site will change, shed old skins and grow new ones, evolve — and all for the better, I hope. As for now, tell your friends, family, coworkers, colleagues to come on over and join the discussion. It’ll be worth it.
